Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse in Carlsbad

As far as food establishments go, this is one of the more delightful places in town. If you like hibachi grille style, then you will be pleased. The fillet and shrimp are legit. Like most places in this town now, the service is sub par because nobody wants to work the service industry anymore and to chase the oil field money 💰🤷‍♂️👎🏻

This was a great stop to eat while staying in Carlsbad. Great food and atmosphere and if you're a fan of One Piece anime then you'll love the wall art here. Staff seems like a fun and energetic group.

This was the third time we'd been here, but the first time we sat at the grill. I definitely recommend spring at the grill every time. The food at the regular tables is fine, but not great. Getting it hot and fresh straight off the grill makes it so much better! Plus it's fun to watch them cook it.

I love there food. They're service is great friendly sometimes it's a long wait but it is very much worth the wait.

This place bas some phenomenal sushi. Both the fried and raw rolls I had were very flavorful, and very well presented. It's on par or a better value than most other places I've been. These rolls were $12 each I believe. Would definitely recommend, and I can't wait to go back and get some more!

Eat at the grill it's fresher and it seems you receive more on your plate. Presentation is much better at the grill

This was a horrible experience. Sat down and waited 5 minutes to get or drink order. Took 30 minutes to finally get food order. Another 5 before for was started.Performance was fine, nothing dropped, did the standard hibachi fare. Food was overcooked and undercooked depending on the dish. Sushi came out with bones in it. Waiter could hardly speak English but also did not speak Japanese.Portions were small, half what I get anywhere else for the same expensive price. Beer was 3x normal price. I felt my horribly cooked meal was horribly overpriced as much as it tasted bad.Final straw was when the waiter forgot about is to get the check. The bussboy had to take the check for us while the waiter was off talking to someone.Overall, avoid at all costs, what a horrible rip off scam of a place.

Pretty fresh for being in Carlsbad New Mexico but the prices are really steep. I spent $60 for 2 rolls (Red Dragon & Cowboy) and 4 slices of smoked salmon sashimi.

My experience was awful the waiter was impolite. Their was hair iny food and the meat was under cooked, and tje dessert was not cooked right.

We were staying in White's City and decided to come to Carlsbad for dinner. Every single place we checked the hours said it closes at 10:00pm, including their own website. No signage for hours on the restaurant, walked in at 9:00pm and stood there for 10 minutes before someone came in that worked there and informed us that "they think they're closed". Someone could have at least acknowledged us and told us they were closed when they saw us walk in.

This restaurant is a great addition to Carlsbad. Hibachi-style cooking complete with flame and knife skills show. The food is delicious and plentiful. Lunch - before 4 - is cheaper, but supper comes with shrimp added. Very good.

The pink lady and the Hawaiian roll here. Pretty tasty. The wasabi needs improvement. Sit at the bar for great service and something new and special from the chef.

Frist off the staff was wonderful. They were friendly and prompt. I only had the sushi and it was below average but where else could ya go? Maybe the hibachi is better? Not the worst but I won't be back for the sushi.

This place is Amazing!! If you dine in I definitely suggest sitting at a grill. The food is delicious and service is great.

Great place! Enjoyed the atmosphere, the server was nice and kept our drinks refilled, and I even got extra food! :) Definitely recommend to check it out for lunch!

We just had the most disgusting experience in Tokyo Steak House in Carlsbad, NM. We went for Beth’s birthday dinner and we were sat at a grill. A huge roach was on the table crawling all over the plates. We told the waiter and they just offered to move us to another table. Then they sat another family down where the roach was without cleaning anything at all. Not the table or not even giving them clean plates. After we were done they charged both of our parties of 3 a force tip of 18% even though service was slow and there was a HUGE ROACH!!!

Their food is delicious! They are always packed so we always order to go, but their waiting time is surprisingly fast.

This place is sooooo freakin' good! The chef's are funny........some of them. And others are hilarious. Food is good and sushi is amazing. Definitely recomend this place.

Great find in the New Mexico desert. Prices are reasonable and sashimi was fresh and delicious. They also have hibachi dining.

Don't order the beef. It's not very good. It's tough and flavor is bad. The chicken is good. The fried rice is also good. The decor is fun. Typical Carlsbad restaurant, three stars.

Rice was nota cooked enough, and the meat was very tough. Sorry I had to send it back. Good thing they didn't charge me for it.

Would not recommend this place to anyone. We ordered an assortment of things. Tempera veggies, spring rolls, a sushi roll and a hibachi dinner combo. Within an hour after eating we were both sure the food was not agreeing with us. 12 hours and many runs to the bathroom later we finally felt better. And aside from this, the service was horrible. Asked for the steak medium well, it was delivered raw. Waited forever for even a glass of water. We were there at 4:30 pm, well before the dinner rush. We counted 13 employees and only 18 guests. We lost track of all the times we saw employees just standing around, talking, checking their phones while customers waited.

Pretty good. The Carlsbad sushi roll is really good. Typical hibachi place. I just wish the cooks would come up with different routines while cooking rather than seeing the same tricks in the same order every time.

The food was very good but the service was terrible. The waiter took his time to show up with the menus. He took our order and came back with the drinks and the sushi because I asked him to. He never came back for refills. He only came back to discuss how we will be splitting our ticket. He was not busy he simply spent his time flirting with two other female waitresses or cooks. I am not sure. The chef that came by our table did a very good job. The food was very well prepared and he we very pleasant.

Very good food with nice service. I especially like to go at lunch because there's a discount which definitely dampens the at times hefty price at night.

This was my first time at a Hibachi place like this. We sat at the grill and they took our order and everything was really good. We both got the Hibachi steak dinner. Watching the man cook it was really cool and the food tasted great! But the menu said it came with onion soup, salad, rice, and a shrimp appetizer. Our whole "grill" of people never received a soup or salad so I was confused and a little disappointed. I think maybe the restaurant got busy and we were just forgotten on that part and again at the end when it came time to get to go boxes and pay. So overall the food was good but the service was lacking. Could have just been understaffed. Will definitely go again.

Wow there was so much food.. but no flavor the meat was very tough. Enough rice for 4 people. The server was great very polite and good service.

I had never been to a restaurant were the food was prepared in front of me! It was delicious, but the scallops I had were not the best, (they were still pretty decent). I enjoyed seeing the skill of the chef and the server was able to see the needs of everyone at the grill with considerable aptitude!

The food and atmosphere were excellent. This place was a hidden gem in a place with rarely any Asian food. It was surprising to find it in the small town to begin with. They could have taken that to mean they could slack in presentation and flavor, but as you can see they didn't. Delicious!

I stopped on our way from NM to TX, and I would have rather not eaten at all. One of the worst meals I've ever had. I left about half of my meal on the table even though I was hungry, simply because I couldn't stomach it anymore. I am not a picky eater! How hard is it to cook vegetables in a way that keeps them edible?? Atmosphere was wack and slightly eerie. The only redeeming thing was that the veggie sushi roll was okay. Not better than what you can get at the grocery store, though. I can't imagine what the fish would have been like.... If you're thinking about eating here, just get a bag of chips from the gas station across the street instead.

Sat there 10 plus minutes and not one person asked me for anything All the staff just walked by me. Never ever stop in there again. I would rather eat McDonald's
